The Galactic Patrol
The Galactic Patrol originated on Vulcan, from where it was formed to combat space pirates at the dawn of space travel, and was initially called the Vulcan Space Patrol. Gradually space exploration developed and expanded and new species of intelligent life were discovered elsewhere in the Milky Way Galaxy. Vulcan and Earth gradually found that they shared many common interests, including economic and political. With the expansion in trade and discovery of planets rich in natural resources, some unhabitated, lawless elements followed seeking quick riches. Newly discovered planets with intelligent life were encouraged to join the Empire but the rapid expansion of the Milky Way Galaxy unearthed weaknesses in the administration of the Empire. Lawless elements seized control of planets rich in natural resources and planets dissatisfied with the Empire revolted against it.
The Vulcan Space Patrol was renamed the Space Patrol and a base for training and operations was set up on Earth. Over time other Home Planets joined the Vulcan/Earth alliance and The Galactic Patrol came into being. It was renamed The Galactic Patrol as it was opened up to include the citizens of a group of planets that came to be known as The Galactic Patrol Home Planets. The charter of The Galactic Patrol was then altered to direct its activities to exploration and policing of the Milky Way Galaxy. This role was later expanded to include a political role.
While attempting to stamp out criminal activities The Galactic Patrol came into increasing conflict with the various planets that now make up the Overlords alliance. The leaders of these planets complained that the activities of The Galactic Patrol were curtailing their legitimate business activities. Hovever these planets appear to rely on creative business activities which included piracy, hi-jacking, extortion, drug-trafficking and terrorism as the basis of their economy. Their attempts to subjugate other weaker planets brought them into further conflict with The Galactic Patrol.
The Galactic Patrol, as the only intra-galactic law enforcement body, objected to these economic activities and the Overlords planets resented the interference of The Galactic Patrol in what they considered to be legitimate business enterprises. War broke out and lasted for 100 years. This series of battles are known as the Wars of Domination, with each alliance struggling ubsuccessfully to dominate the other. They have now set about building a mighty military alliance with which to challenge The Galactic Patrol.
The current position is that neither alliance is sufficiently powewrful to defeat the other. Skirmishes and minor battles occur from time to time but the battles of the Wars of Domination in which 1,000s of heavy military Spacecraft were involved have not re-occurred in the past few years.
The Overlords have now developed a mighty military alliance with which to challenge The Galactic Patrol. The Galactic Patrol has responded by increasing its strength, training and the quality of its weapons. Modorians are natural leaders and excellent organizers. Their allies are all fierce and warlike and very difficult to overcome. On the other hand The Galactic Patrol is tough and fearless. The sole ambition of the Overlords alliance is total domination of the Milky Way Galaxy, and the main ambition of The Galactic Patrol is to defeat the Overlords. It appears to be only a matter of time before open warfare again breaks out on a previously unheard of galactic scale.
