Vulcans

Vulcans have been civilized for over 100,000 years and as such are considered to be an ancient race when compared to many other races. Vulcans are believed to have descended from an earlier primitive race of 4 legged reptiles whose descendants still inhabit areas of Vulcan. For 50,000 Vulcans have tried to live in harmony with their neighbours but have found this a difficult task. They are brilliant and inventive, but are somewhat lacking in ambition. This is of considerable relief to other less competent inhabitants of the galaxy.

Prior to the formation of the Old Empire the Humans from Earth made various attempts to persuade Vulcan to become a vassal planet of Earth. When this proposal was rejected by the Vulcans Earth Control sent Fleet Admiral Nils Larsen with a Battle Fleet of over 1,000 craft to force the Vulcans to change their minds. By chance the Battle Fleet arrived just after a War Fleet comprised of Taurans and Vegans had laid siege to Vulcan. Nils Larsen then made a unilateral decision that was to have far reaching effects upon Earth/Vulcan relations. Instead of carrying out his orders he attacked the Tauran/Vegan War Fleet and with the element of surprise inflicted a comprehensive defeat upon it.

Consequently Vulcans and Humans have been allies since the days of the Old Empire. Vulcans are honest and incapable of telling untruths. They make excellent soldiers and chess players but poor politicians. Each century the Vulcans celebrate what they call the "Nils Deliverance".

Vulcans live a simple life as they rely on mind power more so than machines. Vulcan is very mountainous with many active volcanos. Vulcan towns are built in valleys away from active volcanoes. The planet is masked in yellow smoke and vapour from volcanos. A cloudy sky reflects volcanic fires.
